Custom Entryway Cabinet

This was a custom entryway cabinet commissioned by a client in Toronto. My client previously used a makeshift clothes cabinet at the entryway to the home made of plywood. They liked the way it was used but the appearance had to align with the rest of the house. Everything about this piece was custom, including the finish which was applied by hand.

Before. Client had makeshift plywood coat cabinet in the entryway to the home.

Detail of usage, which they liked.

Piano on the other side of the cabinet.

Cabinet assembled before finishing. Will have to be taken apart again for finishing.

Finishing in progress. It was very important for this large cabinet to be able to come apart easily so as to be able to get it in the client's house.

Green Rooftop Deck

This was a two-part deck on a green roof (engineered by Fishburn and Associates). One wood-frame was Spanish Cedar, the other towards the centre of the roof was  levelled with high quality, adjustable pedestals and clad with stone from Georgian Bay.

Access to roof drain was created for future maintenance.

The crib framing was wrapped in blue-skin, to protect the wood from moisture damage.

Reclaimed Victorian Detail

This house, located close to the University of Toronto, had been divided up into student housing, the stairway had been an entrance to another apartment. When the dividing wall was taken down, there was no handrail and so a new one had to be built. This handrail was constructed with the period of the home in mind and the existing upstairs handrail, which had remained intact. The balusters (spindles) are oak and not painted, as per the clients vision.

View of reclaimed and restored Newel post with railing installed. Looks like it had always been there.

Third Floor Renovation - Part Two

View of dormer and custom desk, study area and closet. Most elements have come together in this photo such as the installation of the maple hardwood floor and painting of newly repaired walls and baseboards. We restored the original baseboards after adding electrical outlet access points into them. We still need to install the ceiling lighting fixture but that will happen after the Electrical Safety Authority inspection.

Closet.
View of the study area desk equipped with LED lighting. Designing this cabinetry was challenging because of the angled ceiling of the dormer but we came up with the right solution.
Work in progress but its coming together. Lights have been hooked up, doors installed, needs cabinet hardware.

Lower cabinets and closet installed. Design of shelf, lighting and additional storage to follow.
At the top of the stairway we repaired the original Newel post, replaced the spindles and handrail.
